How to choose between extension cords and power strips?

Power Strips

As its name suggests, a power strip is made of a series of electrical sockets with a wire and electrical plug at its ending.
A power strip is designed to house and power up several electrical devices that are close to each other. For example, you can connect multiple devices in a power strip inside your entertainment room. In addition, as a precautionary measure, some power strips come with a circuit breaker to avoid a short circuit or power overload.
Power strips also come with an automatic shut off feature. Belkin, Eaton, Riello, Apc, and Hama offer high quality extension cords and power strips.

Extension Cord

An extension cord has an electrical plug on one end and a socket on the other side. The extension cord is a long cable that is used to extend a power outlet to a remote electrical device or appliance. Extension cords are available in a wide range of forms starting from only 2 feet long to 30 feet or more.
It’s easy to confuse between an extension cord and a power strip, especially when there are some power strips with lengthy cables just like the extension cords. However, there is a huge difference such as;

• You should choose a power strip if you want to develop the number of electrical outlets from a single source.
• If you want to extend the power source to a remote appliance, you should use an extension cord.
